On the road at 7.30. I slept right through from the time I finished my chores around 8:30 until 5:30am. That never happens at this altitude, I definitely needed the rest.

From where I camped there was a 3 kilometer climb up to a village callded Cuzca. I saw highway crew guys all day long, on bicycles and small motorcycles, sweeping the shoulders, filling potholes, and clearing culverts. It seems like a keep people busy job. I must have seen about 30 people working on the road today.

More climbing and strong headwinds today. The road flattened out around 2pm as II began leaving the Cordillera de los Frailes. The winds really picked up as I got closer to the Lago Poopó. Every village in this area has a sign in front of it about Unicef or another NGO doing a project such as potable water, green house construction, economic development of one kind or another, etc...

By the end of the day I was not feeling well again, I have definitely come down with something. In Challapata I grabbed a room for 5 dollars and had a big two course dinner with tea for 1.25. It´s cheaper to eat out here than it is to cook.

I bought this VDO last August, just crossed 100,000 meters climbed. The number includes this trip plus the European warmup in the fall.

Dust devil. Not fun getting caught in one.

Lots of the villages have these identical little churches. I guess they are all-purpose places of worship.
