Up early. No choice, in a youth hostel the first one up wakes everyone else. Breakfast all you can eat, and I partake. Ciao to the Swedish bikers, they offer me earplugs but I don't need them. Alesund -> 650 to Valdall, nice ride.

It doesn't really come out on my camera but the color of the water is striking; a silverish light blue, unlike anything I've ever seen. I'm told that it is glacial runoff.

63 to Andalsnes. This is the Trollstigen (Trolls' road). Impressive cliff with switchbacks up and down. Too many people to really hit the road hard though, lots of tourists. 64, ferry to Solgnes. See the ocean at Eide. The Swedes had recommended this road and it's ok but nothing to write home about. Lots of ferries as well. Ferries are nice the first couple of times but they cost about 7 bucks each and they get tiring after a while. Meet an Italian couple from Venice on a big BMW on-off road bike. They speak French. The tank on this bike is huge, he says it can do 500 kilometers without refueling. The woman has glued stuffed-animal tiger ears to the top of her helmet.

I'd love to scrape the pegs on some of the corners but too many slow-moving, picture-snapping camper vans in the way.

Bert is thinking: I probably have a few cousins down there..

After Kristiansund it really starts raining. E39 to Trondheim. I suspect the scenery is pretty but I can't see shit because of the rain. Get to Trondheim 18h30. Another hostel (Interrail center), normally a student center but converts to a hostel in the summer. Cheapest I've seen so far in Norway, 130 kröner (20 dollars).

Chinese takeout for dinner, 10 bucks without a drink. This place is relentless, no way to live cheaply, and the quality is terrible. Thankfully the scenery makes up for it all.

Shit and shower at the same time? Brilliant, let's call it a shitower.
