I slept like a dead man last night. The room was pitch dark and with my earplugs I didn't even wake up until 8:30. After breakfast, coffee, and getting my stuff together I didn't get riding until 9:45. When I made my way out of the centro histórico I discovered that the east wind was blowing hard. Perfect! There have been so few days on this trip when I've had the wind in my favor that when it happens I get all excited. Particularly because I knew today would be all highway.

By noon I already had 50k on the odometer. If I had gotten up earlier it would have been a huge day, as it was I still had the highest average speed of the trip: 25.5 kph. Not much else to report other than flying along the highway. I had dreams of reaching La Piedad (would have been 195k for the day) but the wind turned against me around 3:30. There was no way I would make it without the wind's help so I stopped and got a $5 hotel room in a small city called Pénjamo.

An American woman gave me this sunscreen while I was in San Cristóbal de las Casas; I just started using it today. I smell like a sweaty coconut.
