I've got confirmation for the rest stop in Portland, the stage is set, now I just have to get there. I hang out with some of the guys at the house waiting for the person in the tent on the porch to wake up so I can get the bike out from behind it and hit the road. Another good conversation at the kitchen table this morning, these guys are cool. I'm impressed at how tidy the house is despite the number of people living here; I lived in a similar house in college and that place was a hygienic disaster area.

River running through Bend, Oregon

There is some rain, never enough to get wet, and plenty of wind out of the west. It's not helping me today, at times I'm really fighting it. I've got the prospect of that R&R in Portland in my head so I'm not letting it bother me. Today is all highway 97, not much to report, just a flattish ride through the farms and a few farming towns before I get to Madras. The late start means I'm not getting farther today because my route from here takes me through an Indian reservation where I suspect it's tough to camp. I take the easy way out and get a motel.

Good on ya godless heathens.

The fields next to the highway are squirming with woodchucks. Interesting how they are oblivious to cars and trucks but run for their holes when they see me coming.
