It rained all night. I was glad to be in a hotel room. On the road early for a long day with an unexpected dose of climbing. I'm glad that I got to ride this stretch on a Sunday because the first 50 kilometers after Santiago the divided highway became a two-laner with badly cracked cement and a mostly unrideable shoulder. The light traffic allowed me to skate out into the middle of the road to avoid cracks when I needed to. After that first 50k the road turned to newish asphalt with a good shoulder, just in time for some longish climbs. I was sweating up a storm in the hot sun. The pair of cycling shorts that I was wearing today show all the sweat in a non-strategic location... I got some looks when I stopped to buy things.

It started raining again at 4pm but I didn't get too badly doused today. At 5:30 I saw a sign for a hotel off the road in a place called Las Lajas. The hotel is run by a German, he had German pop music playing when I pulled in. I went to the store for supplies and cooked my meal outside my bungalo. Going for a dip in the pool later!
