I got going pretty early, grabbed a coffee and a pastry at the Oxxo, then started the climb up out of Comitán. There was a fair amount of climbing today through pine forests but it was pretty easy with gentle grades. Have to keep an eye out for trucks on this road, in some places the shoulder is non-existent. The drivers were good to me though, almost always giving me plenty of space as they passed.

On one of the downhills I ran into Ed who has ridden from Oregon to here in three months. That's a pretty good clip. We shared some tips for the road (and he shared cookies!), he has a blog here.

There was light rain off and on all day until about 10 kilometers from San Cristobal when it became decidedly on. I rolled into town and found the place that Phil had recommended, El Hostalito on Maria Adelina Flores 24, without too much trouble. The first night is free for cyclists! I went out for a walk later on but I beat a quick retreat back to the hostel when it started pouring rain.
